Measures put in place to ease traffic gridlock in Twin Towns

first_imgA number of interim measures have been put in place this morning in the Twin Towns to ease the traffic problems in the towns over the weekend. It follows gridlock in the town in recent days.Cllr Gary Doherty has been in contact with Donegal County Council on the matter. He said he hopes the new measures will ease that congestion.“I’ve been inundated with complaints about the traffic chaos in Ballybofey/Stranorlar. With the ongoing roadworks the usual busy summer traffic has been supplemented by cars heading to the Irish Open at Ballyliffin, and it has caused gridlock. This is extremely frustrating for residents, businesses and those passing through the Twin Towns.“I was in contact with Donegal County Council throughout the day yesterday, and following a conversation with the Director of Service for Roads yesterday evening.”The following measures have been put in place. – DCC has requested to Gardai that Ballybofey/Stranorlar be included in the traffic management plan for the Irish Open, as it is clear that this is a traffic pinch point for those going to Ballyliffin. As such, 4 Gardai have been requested to manage traffic in the Twin Towns today.– Works due to start this morning have been delayed until 9.30 to allow for free flowing traffic during rush hour.– A “stop/go” system will be in operation all day today. This involves workers standing with the “stop/go” signs to allow for better traffic flow and to prevent motorists from driving through red lights.– It is hoped to have all temporary traffic lights removed for the weekend. In this regard, where the road surface is currently dug open, the contractors have been requested to fill these temporarily to allow traffic to flow in both directions.Measures put in place to ease traffic gridlock in Twin Towns was last modified: July 6th, 2018 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more
