Early morning fire: Family of 10 kicks down door to escape

first_imgA family of 10 is contemplating its next move after an early morning fire demolished the family’s Guyhoc Park, Georgetown home on Saturday.Reports are that family members were awakened from their slumber after a flickering light had been observed at about 03:30h at the Lot 85 Guyhoc Park house. Mother of eight, 35-year-old Natasha Cadogan, related to Guyana Times that one of her daughters alerted her that fire was coming from the rear section of the two-storey house. As checks were made, it was discovered that the kitchen area was engulfed in flames.“My daughter went sitting in the back room, and then we jump up and then go out and see the fire in the kitchen,” Cadogan said in tears. She explained that the fire spread quickly to other sections of the wooden-and-concrete house. To avoid getting injured, the woman and her seven children had to make their way to safety by breaking through the back door.“From the kitchen, we go to out it, but it run straight in the bedroom, and then everything start happening. They couldn’t get to come out the house. They had to kick down the back door, and then everybody run out,” the distraught Cadogan stated. When this publication arrived at the scene, the entire house had already been gutted by the fire. The homeless family members are seeking shelter at a neighbour’s home. The only things that survived the fire were a detached concrete shed in front of the burnt building, some clothes that were left to dry in the sun, and the flooring of the burnt building. In tears, Cadogan confided that she would have lost everything in the blaze, and her losses are estimated in the millions. While tumbling through the debris, she found some gold jewellery and some of her husband’s clothes. She told this publication that she cannot say what may have caused the fire, since the stove and all electrical items had been turned off. She said her husband was at work at the time of the fire.“We does turn off all we lights them at night…Nothing left on in the kitchen,” she declared. One of her daughters mentioned that the family had been occupying the building for about 15 years. She said she is grateful to neighbours and bystanders who assisted and also called the Guyana Fire Service (GFS). She, however, noted that the Fire Service had taken some time to arrive on scene. However, sources have confirmed that the firefighters have found an illegal wire connected to a utility post in front of the yard. Investigations are continuing.last_img read more

HARPS MISS CHANCE TO GO FOUR POINTS CLEAR AFTER UCD DEFEAT

first_imgFinn Harps missed the chance to go four points clear at the summit of the First Division table after defeat by a stubborn UCD side. The students have proved a handful this season and probably should have taken the all points when the sides last met in Ballybofey. The talented Robbie Benson was the difference on this occasion at Belfield when he netted in the 64th minute for the only goal of the game. Harps certainly don’t hold back in the tackle and were determined to search for that vital opening.Their ‘appetite’ to get back on level terms overflowed sometimes resulting in no less than seven of their side being yellow-carded.A frustrated Thomas McMonagle was eventually shown a red card in the 87th minute.HARPS MISS CHANCE TO GO FOUR POINTS CLEAR AFTER UCD DEFEAT was last modified: July 26th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:donegalfinn harpsUCDlast_img read more

Shaban Lubega: PML Daily Premier League team of the Week Seven

first_imgZabaleta assisted West Ham’s opener against Manchester United on Saturday22 goals were scored across nine stadiums in the Premier League. Two came at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea drew one all with Liverpool in the biggest clash of game week 7. The highestscoring game was the one that kicked off the weekend as West Ham registered their first home win of the season thanks to a 3-1 drubbing of Jose Mourinho’s United.Elsewhere, Man City and Arsenal registered routine victories at home to Brighton and early season surprise package-Watford respectively. After two successive defeats, Tottenham made it two wins in their last two games thanks to a Harry Kane brace which propelled the West Londoners to a 2-0 victory at Huddersfield.Aside from Huddersfield, the other two teams still yet to win a game, Newcastle and Cardiff both lost their respective home games to Leicester and Burnely. Here are the 11 players that stood out for me in game week four:GK. Rui Patricio (Wolves). Signed on a free transfer from Sporting this summer, Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio is already proving to be one of the acquisitions of the window. The Portuguese made six saves in Wolves 2-0 win over Southampton, showcasing the pedigree that has seen him capped 75 times for Portugal.RB. Pablo Zabaleta (West Ham United). Second time on the bounce that Zabaleta makes my team of the week. After a stellar display against Chelsea on match day six, the Argentine was at it again as West Ham beat Man United 3-1 on Saturday. He rolled back the years with a surge forward to set up Felipe Anderson’s opener as his side registered a second victory of the season.CB. Antonio Rudiger (Chelsea).Rudiger made 71 passes in Chelsea’s draw with Liverpool but that wasn’t it all as the big German was all-over the Kops’ front three, barely giving them time to control a ball.He may not be the most elegant of defenders but one who clearly gets the job done for Maurizio Sarri.CB. Harry Maguire (Leicester City).A goal and an assist for arguably Leicester best player this season and it’s not every day that a center-back achieves such a fate.Maguire also Maguire recovered possession on nine occasions against Newcastle; the most of any Leicester City player.LB. Jonny Castro (Wolves)Registered his first Premier League goal against Southampton and also helped Wolves keep a third clean sheet of the season.MF. Mark Noble (West Ham United). The West Ham captain and fans’ favorite stood out in their 3-1 victory against Manchester United. He made more passes than any team-mate and provided an assist for Marko Arnautovic.Noble also attempted and completed more passes than any other West Ham player against Manchester United on Saturday.MF. Gylfi Sigurdsson (Everton).Sigurdsson scored twice as Everton beat Fulham 3-0 at Goodison Park. After an indifferent debut season, the playmaker has returned to a more central role this year and delivered a performance on Saturday to justify his club-record price tag.The only downside to his display on Saturday was the fact that he failed to convert a penalty.MF. Mesut Ozil (Arsenal).Mesut Ozil has scored two goals in his past three Premier League games, as many as he managed in his previous 18.He was so instrumental against Watford over the weekend that it was just unfortune that he did not get the assist for the second goal in the 2-0 victory.FW. Raheem Sterling (Man City).Against Brighton, Sterling was immense, and the speed with which his game has improved under Pep Guardiola is staggering. He was directly involved in both of Manchester City’s goals against Brighton (one goal and one assist.FW. Edin Hazard (Chelsea). The best player in the Premier League without a doubt. After scoring a wonder goal at Anfield on Wednesday night, Eden Hazard continued his fine form and repeated the trick in Saturday’s evening kick-off, opening the scoring as Chelsea drew 1-1 with Liverpool.FW. Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspurs).Kane scored both goals as Spurs won at Huddersfield. He now has 5 for the season, just one behind Eden Hazard as he seeks the third Golden Boot of his career.Comments Tags: premier league team of the weektoplast_img read more
