Antarctic timelapse brings 10 minutes of icy awesomeness

first_imgFace it: everything is more awesome at the Poles. The ships can smash foot-thick ice, they use helicopters to move things around, and apparently everything you do involves a crane of some sort. At least those are the observations I was able to take away from the excellent time-lapse video above. It was pointed out that the video’s title is “RAE-54 on board the research vessel Akademik Fedorov” if you were curious. Also, make sure to watch the video closely as all sorts of strange things happen, from a plane being offloaded from a boat to a swimming pool being constructed by a group of people to what looks like a coffin being unloaded (4:30).The video is a bit long but enough cool stuff happens that it’s worth a watch (or two). Definitely don’t miss the end where the ship navigates through a thin body of water, narrowly avoiding ships and other obstacles (after 8:30).via Grasp the Universe via Redditlast_img
