(Photo by Mike Stobe/Getty Images)There is mounting evidence to support the idea that Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray will be one of the top overall picks in the 2019 NFL draft. The latest reports indicate that another top-five draft team is now in the mix for the Heisman trophy winner. In an interview on The Dan Patrick Show, writer Peter King revealed that Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden is “very interested” in Kyler Murray. King noted  that Gruden appears unable to hide his excitement over Murray.Gruden and Raiders general manager Mike Mayock have been gushing about incumbent quarterback Derek Carr, but it is increasingly hard to make the case for Carr to stay after his rough 2018. Despite career-highs in completion percentage, passing yards and yards per attempt, Carr had career-lows in touchdowns and a career-high in sack percentage and times sacked.”Someone in Indianapolis told me Jon Gruden is the worst poker player in the NFL. He and Mike Mayock can talk all they want about Derek Carr … but I’ll tell you Jon Gruden is very interested in Kyler Murray.” – Peter King on @dpshow— Andrew Perloff (@andrewperloff) March 4, 2019 Assuming the Arizona Cardinals do not draft Murray at No. 1 overall, the Raiders could conceivably draft Murray without having to make a trade up. They have the No. 4 overall pick while the the San Francisco 49ers (No. 2 overall) and New York Jets (No. 3 overall) appear set at the quarterback position.Murray led the Sooners to a 12-2 record that included a Big 12 title and a trip to the College Football Playoff. Along the way, he picked up numerous awards including the Heisman Trophy. For the Raiders, their potential pursuit of Murray seems to depend entirely on whether the Cardinals decide to dump second-year quarterback Josh Rosen and draft him.Should Arizona decide to stick with Rosen, the Raiders seem a near lock to at least have Murray as an option when they pick fourth.last_img
