DD Fitness: High calorie ‘health’ foods

first_imgThe health food industry is huge at the moment.People are becoming more mindful of their food choices and they are moving away from more processed foods and are choosing more whole foods as an alternative.Foods like:  Avocado, coconut oil, butter, nuts, seeds, honey, peanut butter, olive oil, green smoothies vegan foods dark chocolate fruit smoothiesThese foods are all great sources of vitamins, minerals, fats and carbs and have some protein in them.But.If weight loss is your goal, they can put a spanner in the works if you are not being careful.The reason for this is that these foods have a lot of calories for a very small serving of each. If you take nuts for example, per 100g they have an average of between 500-600 calories and if you have ever measured out 100g of nuts, it isn’t very much.Peanut butter is the same, a recommended serving size is 20g and this has 125 calories per serving. Again, if you have never measured out 20g of peanut butter, you should try it and then have a good cry at how small this is.People tend to think that, when I state that these foods are high in calories, I am somehow taking away from the benefits they have.  But that isn’t what I am doing, and it isn’t the point of my posts and articles.But!IF WEIGHT LOSS IS YOUR GOAL, you may want to be mindful with the amounts of these foods you are using.  Again, If – WEIGHT – LOSS – IS – YOUR – GOAL. If it isn’t, you are fine with whatever amounts you eat of them, you just need to keep in mind that there is a chance you will gain weight if those amounts are too liberal.Small amounts of these foods have large amounts of calories in them.So, using them in large amounts will lead to you taking in large amounts of calories.It DOES NOT matter how healthy these foods are, if you are over consuming calories, weight loss will either stall or you will gain weight.
