Valve announces launch of Steam China after partnering with Perfect World

first_imgAs a result of a longstanding partnership between Valve and Chinese gaming company, Perfect World, Steam China will officially be coming to the Chinese market. The two companies began their partnership six years ago to bring Dota 2 and CS:GO to China and more recently hosted Dota 2’s SuperMajor in Shanghai. Now as the gaming industry grows stronger every day in the east, Valve and Perfect World are looking to open more opportunities to bring western games to one of the biggest gaming markets in the world.Steam is technically already available in China but in less than a legitimate capacity. Despite having a reported 17 million users, the community features are currently blocked. Games released in China are subjected to heavy regulations and are oftentimes banned by the Chinese government due to blood, violence, and mature content. The government heavily favours local companies and now with Valve and Perfect World working together to bring Steam to China in an official setting, it should bring more western games and features that are currently blocked.Steams main competition in China is Tencent’s WeGame platform. As Tencent is locally based it’s had an easier time with laws and regulations bringing games like Fortnite and Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds to the Chinese market. With WeGame’s already expanding platform there’s no telling how games will be split as Steam will officially be joining the market.Tencent’s WeGame platformNo release date has been announced for Steam China.Esports Insider says: China is one of the largest and fastest video game markets in the world and it’s easy to see why. Although Steam is technically already available in China, this is a great move to further legitimize the platform. This decision will hopefully make western developers pay more attention to the eastern market. The more users and more eyes on games and gaming platforms, the better!Sign up to our newsletter!last_img read more

Trump Again Calls Out Democratic Congresswomen on Twitter

first_imgPresident Trump on Sunday resumed his criticism of the four progressive Democratic congresswomen now known as “The Squad.”He tweeted: That message came one week after the President stated that the women, who are all minorities, should “go back” to the “corrupt and inept” countries from which they came.Three of the women – Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Representative Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and Representative Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts — were born in the U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota was born in Somalia and immigrated to the U.S. as a child. The President last week distanced himself after supporters attending his campaign rally in North Carolina started a “send her back” chant in response to his criticism of Omar.Since then, he has reversed course, calling the people at the rally “incredible patriots.”last_img read more

Big crops in 2016 pushing need to boost demand

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest The USDA weekly crop progress report of Nov. 7 had the U.S. corn harvest at 86% while the soybean harvest was 93% complete. Ohio was at a very similar pace that showed corn harvest at 81% with soybeans at 95% complete. The five-year average harvest pace for Ohio had corn harvest at 67% and soybean harvest at 85%. The fantastic harvest weather since early October had Ohio’s producers experiencing very few delays due to rain events. In fact, the weather has been pretty much one of a prolonged trend of normal to above normal temperatures with below normal rainfall. It allowed those producers planting wheat to get it sowed timely during the first two weeks of October. Then for many, rains followed within seven to 10 days, pushing wheat to a fantastic early start with fields a deep green, bringing smiles to producers. Unfortunately, with world wheat stocks at record levels, wheat prices are in the tank as they continue to trade at 10-year lows. For many in Ohio, wheat prices for new crop 2017 wheat are near the $4.30 mark, certainly nothing to be excited about. Those that can double crop soybeans following wheat will certainly be well pleased with the 30 to 40 bushels per acre many experienced with double crop soybeans in 2016.The Nov. 9 USDA supply and demand report proved to be bearish as corn and soybean production, yields, and ending stocks were all above trader expectations. USDA put U.S. corn production at 15.226 billion bushels and the yield at 175.3 bushels per acre. Both are at new record levels. Corn ending stocks rose 83 million bushels from October, now at 2.403 billion bushels. Corn is flirting near the critical ending stock number of 2.5 billion bushels. That kind of a number often brings about negative price thoughts that can last for months. Demand for corn is above levels of last year. All eyes will continue to watch U.S. corn exports in the months ahead, now at 2.15 billion bushels. It will be crucial to watch since those exports were lowered 100 million bushels last month. December CBOT corn currently has a contract low of $3.1475. For much of this fall it traded in a sideways range of $3.30 to $3.60.USDA estimated U.S. soybean production at 4.361 billion bushels with a yield of 52.5 bushels per acre. Ending stocks are at 480 million bushels, up 85 million bushels from the October report. Both U.S. corn and soybean production and yields are at record levels this year. The U.S. soybean yield has risen every month since the actual field reports began with the August report. At that time USDA estimated the soybean yield at 48.9 bushels per acre. It should be no surprise that the U.S. soybean yield in November was up 7% or 3.6 bushels from August. The 2016 soybean production year has been compared to 1994 with similar weather patterns. In 1994 the November yield compared to August rose 11%.Grain producers, especially soybeans, are being treated to a new news event. No, it is not the election of Donald Trump as President. Rather, it comes from China. On Friday, Nov. 11, grain markets watched with anxiety and surprise all at the same time. That day January 2017 CBOT soybeans closed at $9.86, down 12 cents, and near the lows for the month of November. News that the Chinese government had capped speculation on the trading of commodities in China aided the day’s decline. Rumor had it that China had forced a large fund to liquidate large long soybean positions as the fund exceeded position limits. More details will certainly be seen in coming months. With harvest quickly coming to a halt as of mid-November, harvest selling pressure is now behind us. Producers seemed to be willing to sell soybeans this harvest season to give them operating funds. They are holding quite a bit of of corn in anticipation of prices hopefully moving near the $4 mark in coming months. In the near-term the market will continue to focus on record production and less on record demand.last_img read more

first_imgCongress legislator Vishwajeet Kadam suffered minor injuries in a car accident in Pune late on Wednesday.Dr. Kadam, an MLA from Sangli’s Palus-Kadegaon constituency, was fortunate to have averted a major road mishap after his car rammed into a tree, injuring him and his driver while severely mangling the vehicle. In a statement issued on Thursday after the incident, Dr. Kadam said: “While en route from Mumbai to Pune, I met with a minor accident last night after my car hit a tree. Dembele arrives with potential to step into Neymar’s shoes

first_imgLOOK: Venues for 2019 SEA Games “He didn’t choose to be in one of the biggest transfers in the history of football, but I think that he is strong enough mentally to bear this burden,” Stephan said. “We will continue to follow his evolution with great attention and pleasure.” “He is a player who generates a lot of excitement and a lot of expectations,” Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde said. “We expect a lot from him.”Dembele has already shown signs that he has the potential to shine and one day reach the same heights of someone like Neymar. He scored the winner when France defeated England 3-2 in a friendly back in June, in what was his seventh appearance with the French national team. One dazzling moment in that game gave fans a glimpse of Dembele’s talent. Early in the second half, he picked up a loose ball on defense and flicked it past England defender Kyle Walker — one of the quickest in the Premier League — and left him trailing on a pulsating 60-meter run toward the goal.Although slight in build, Dembele has huge upper-body strength, enabling him to ride heavy challenges and use his body to hold off opponents running alongside him. He is a constant threat with his assists, and can play well on both flanks of the field and through the middle.“You can’t tell if he’s right-footed or left-footed, he can strike with both feet,” Julien Stephan, Dembele’s coach in Rennes’ reserve team, said in an interview on the club’s website. “He’s a great competitor and he is not bothered by the pressure. He plays naturally whether it’s in front of 3,000, 30,000 or 100,000 people.”ADVERTISEMENT UPLB exempted from SEA Games class suspension LIST: Class, gov’t work suspensions during 30th SEA Games Don’t miss out on the latest news and information. The club monitored him closely and brought him to its youth academy by the time he was 13.Coaches were quickly impressed, and he was promoted to Rennes’ reserve team in the beginning of the 2014-15 season.“Everyone was talking to me about another player his age, but I only saw him,” said Armand Djire, the Rennes recruiter who got a first look at Dembele. “We brought the family to Rennes and took care of their professional and personal needs. We did everything possible so Ousmane could arrive at (main team) in the best possible conditions.”By the time he was 17, Dembele had already made his first-team debut in the French league, scoring his first goal as a professional in a match against Girondins only two weeks after his debut. In his two seasons as a professional in with the club from northern France, Dembele played 78 matches, scoring 22 goals and setting up 25 others. He became a top prospect for European clubs, and Borussia Dortmund signed him last year in a transfer worth 15 million euros (about $16.7 at the time). He scored six goals and set up 13 others in 32 Bundesliga games, turning into Barcelona’s top target the moment Neymar left for Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth more than 220 million euros ($260 million).Neymar had arrived as a possible successor to Messi, and when he left, the club had to find someone else to take on that difficult desk.Dembele, who will wear Neymar’s former No. 11 jersey, became Barcelona’s most expensive transfer ever, costing 105 million euros ($124 million) plus possible add-ons that could increase the value up to 40 percent of the original fee. Rennes will be entitled to about 40 million euros ($47.2 million) of the amount paid to Dortmund, meaning he’s also the club’s biggest transfer all-time.“The market has been shooting up in the last few days. It seems that every club will be signing their most expensive player from now on. The prices have gone up a lot since Neymar’s buyout clause was paid,” Valverde said, adding that he hopes Dembele “will be prepared” to handle the pressure that comes with a move of this magnitude.Dembele, whose mother is from Mauritania and his father is from Mali, was making his professional debut only 21 months ago, and now all eyes will be on him every time he steps on the field. Louisville Commit G.G. Robinson Says It’s “Messed Up’ That The Cardinals Pulled Their Offer From Matt Colburn

first_imgThe bad side of college football recruiting was showcased by Louisville Monday night, as the Cardinals pulled their scholarship offer from commit Matt Colburn, less than two days before National Signing Day. Bobby Petrino’s program received some serious criticism from recruiting analysts following the news, including this rant from a writer that called for all South Carolina high school players to boycott Louisville. Even a Cardinals’ commit thinks Louisville was rough on Colburn, a three-star running back out of Irmo, South Carolina. G.G. Robinson, a three-star defensive end committed to Petrino’s program, tweeted the following Tuesday morning. Man what Louisville did to my boy Matt was messed up….. That’s awful— GG (@GGRobinson85) February 3, 2015What Louisville did isn’t unheard of, but doing it less than 48 hours before National Signing Day seems fairly classless.
