PDM sends Commissioner another message Bring GT Police Officers back

first_img Increased Police presence promised, TCI Police Commissioner statement on recent shootings Recommended for you Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppProvidenciales, 14 Jan 2016 – The PDM Leader is calling on the Police Commissioner to send the re-stationed officers back to Grand Turk. In a media statement today, Hon Sharlene Robinson said the Party has written to the Commissioner James Smith stating once again that it was a bad move to take police from the Capital and place them in Provo. “We are calling on the Commissioner of Police to reverse his decision to lower the numbers in Grand Turk. While we appreciate the need for Police presence in Providenciales, we still see this move as one that will cause a breakdown in policing efforts in Grand Turk and a reduction in the level of service the community requires and deserves.” Robinson explained that the PDM is aware of as many as eight police being re-deployed to Providenciales late 2015. In that second letter from the PDM, the Commissioner was reportedly told that this depletion of the Grand Turk police manpower is not good because, one, ‘too small a staff lends only to a 3 shift system,’ two, Police Officers will be overworked having to work longer hours and under greater strain with smaller man shifts,’ three: the move ‘weakens Police Patrol and street presence and that ‘Grand Turk sees more tourists than all other Islands combined.’ A suggested remedy by the PDM Party to cope with the need for more police officers was to activate the concept of District Constables, reopen the Training School and for a more comprehensive Policing Plan to be presented to the people of the country. Apple patents an inexpensive 3D projection system

first_img Explore further (PhysOrg.com) — The U.S. patent office has granted Apple a patent for a 3-D projection system that doesn’t require the use of bulky 3-D glasses. This gives the viewer more freedom of movement and viewing angles. Apple is not the only company that’s involved in auto-stereoscopic R&D; however Apple’s patent has picked apart the limitations of three categories of auto-stereoscopic system:1. Ghost like or transparent images in volumetric displays. 2. The viewer required to remain stationary using the parallax barrier method.3. The use of holographic images requires greater computer power and larger bandwidth, keeping the commercial cost higher that is required for other auto-stereoscopic systems. Apple patent application for 3D viewing glasses The name Apple has given to this simple 3-D system is called, “Three Dimensional Display System.” This auto-stereoscopic system works by projecting each pixel onto a reflective, textured surface, which is then bounced into a viewer’s left and right eye separately; this produces the 3D or stereoscopic effect. By sensing the locations of both eyes of each viewer, multiple viewers could observe the 3-D effect from a variety of angles. Each pixel is aimed at a curved surface, where it reflects onto the correct eye. Apple’s main objective is to develop a 3-D glass-free auto-stereoscopic system that would give viewers the freedom to move around without being tied down to bulky 3-D glasses. Apple’s patent also promises to keep costs low and simplifying the system while maintaining performance. This document is subject to copyright.
